Halifax summer events to check out this year

Summertime in Halifax is one of the best times of the year. The sun is out, the city is full of life, and there are endless ways to enjoy yourself in town! Halifax summer events are some of the best in the country, with a huge variety of things to do, see, eat, and visit. Whether you are a local or a tourist, it can be hard to narrow down how you want to spend your time in Halifax this summer. Here are some of our suggestions for events you are sure to enjoy this season!

Halifax Seaport Cider & Beerfest

The Halifax Cider and Beerfest offers visitors a way to enjoy the summer season while staying deliciously refreshed. Representatives for more than 100 different breweries and producers will be gathered at the largest craft beer festival in Atlantic Canada. You will have the opportunity to try over 300 products over the course of three days – a unique treat for the beer and cider lovers out there! Half of the items available for sample at this festival aren’t locally sold and are very hard to come by on the east coast, making this a can’t-miss event for enthusiasts. Get ready to enjoy premium craft beers and ciders, as well as ready-to-drink options like cocktails and hard seltzers. Don’t worry, there will also be plenty of food options to keep you fuelled up! As a fully outdoors event, this is the perfect way to enjoy the sun and warmth, along with some brand new beverages. This is the sixteenth year Halifax has hosted this particular festival, and this is sure to be one of the best ones yet!

Halifax Pride

Halifax Pride is one of the top Halifax summer events every year. This 11-day celebration has turned into the fourth largest Pride festival in Canada, and for good reason. Throughout Pride, visitors get to enjoy a variety of shows, workshops, and events, all surrounding the history, achievements, and challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. This is an opportunity to learn, reflect, celebrate, and party, making it a well-rounded experience for all attendees! Visitors can partake in a whole host of activities from drag shows to comedic performances and community markets, and the famous Pride parade. What started as a relatively small march in 1988 has grown into a spectacular festival for both locals and tourists to enjoy. More information on this year’s schedule will be released on the Pride website soon!

Atlantic International Film Festival

Taking place in mid-September, this festival comes just in time to give summer the perfect send off. This film festival has been a tradition for 43 years, turning Halifax into a go-to spot for movie lovers and artists. Over the course of eight days, audiences can enjoy the best selection of local and international films, with panels and events sprinkled throughout. AIFF began as a small operation in Newfoundland, but has grown to become an important part of Halifax’s arts and culture scene.

Rotary Ribfest

The Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour Ribfest is one of the top annual food festivals around! Over the course of one food-filled weekend, attendees can enjoy barbecued ribs and chicken brought to you by five competing vendors. You can also indulge in local vendors supplying candy, desserts, pizza, and a whole host of other treats. To top it all off, visitors can enjoy live music entertainment throughout the weekend, making this the perfect mini adventure along the waterfront. Perhaps the best part of the Rotary Ribfest is its commitment to giving back to the community, with all net proceeds used to support local and international projects. Attendees pay two dollars at the door as part of the Ribfest’s mission to do work that involves environmental, educational, and other great initiatives. Be sure to check it out!
