The factors
There were a few factors that determined whether a broker could qualify for CMP Top 75 Brokers in 2019. Brokers had to have personally initiated all of their residential deals submitted. While the qualifications were tough to be considered for the list, trends in the market added another challenge to qualifying.
Challenges in 2018
Mortgage brokers across the country were faced with challenges in the mortgage industry. They saw the Bank of Canada increase the overnight rate three times over the course of 2018. Therefore, increasing the interest rates for a mortgage. Additionally, mortgage brokers saw the stress test being put into effect. Both of these challenges could have caused mortgage brokers to want to give up because it was “hard,” but they saw it as a way to become a better mortgage broker for their clients. Brokers that made the list had an average of 257 deals in 2018 and an average of 15 years in the mortgage business.
An opportunity in Halifax
Clinton Wilkins saw this challenge as an opportunity and was recognized in the CMP Top 75 Brokers. While the added stress test and the increasing interest rates could cause borrowers to be hesitant to invest in buying a home. Changes in the market

Clinton didn’t see these factors as obstacles, but rather as opportunities. He wants to remind people that any Canadian can qualify for a mortgage with the proper guidance.
