Celebrating pride and homeownership in Halifax

Halifax Pride is about to return to our city! We’re looking forward to another amazing year of LGBTQ+ events, and the opportunity to celebrate in-person after two years of pandemic festivities. We also want to take this time to discuss the importance of pride and homeownership, and why feeling at home in your neighbourhood should be a top priority. Here’s how we will be celebrating Halifax Pride 2022!

Pride events to enjoy this year

First and foremost, we want to take this opportunity to discuss all the fun events we can enjoy at this year’s Halifax Pride. This annual, 11-day festival begins on July 14, bringing events to the Halifax community to celebrate LGBTQ+ history and activism. We can expect to see over 150 events this year, organized by members of the community and Halifax Pride itself. Pride looked a bit different the past two years as most events were online, so we’re happy to share Pride is back in person this year! There are too many amazing events to mention them all, but some of the most exciting things we have to look forward to include:

  • The flag raising ceremony that officially kicks off this year’s Pride Festival, taking place at Grand Parade Square.
  • The famous Pride Parade that makes its way through downtown Halifax, often seen as the top highlight of the entire 11-day stretch.
  • Performances by local drag artists, creating a fun-filled and exciting experience.
  • Various comedy performances by members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Finding the mortgage team to make you proud

How are pride and homeownership related? While Halifax Pride is a short stretch of celebration, it’s important to feel that same sense of belonging year-round, including when you work with a team to help secure a mortgage for a home. Everyone deserves to have their needs met, and we work to bring our clients a sense of satisfaction and acceptance at all times, not just when the Pride festivities are taking place. Our team is dedicated to making our clients proud of their house and neighbourhood by working with you to find the perfect place to call home. Working with a team that understands and supports your needs can make a big difference to your house hunting journey. Don’t underestimate the power of surrounding yourself with a group who will do everything they can to help you succeed!

Pride in Halifax and your home

Halifax is a great city in Canada for members of the LGBTQ+ community to find a space they feel like they belong in. Pride and homeownership go hand in hand, and it’s important to find the neighbourhood that suits you. While we believe Halifax is an amazing and progressive city, the queer community still experiences discrimination and we want to ensure our clients can truly feel at home in the place they choose to settle. Take some time to research different Halifax neighbourhoods and areas and see if you envision yourself living there. Often, the vibe we get from a place is accurate, so listen to your gut! Of course, it’s also important to take into account your housing needs in terms of logical requirements, such as access to transit and housing size. Still, don’t underestimate the need to feel at home.

This year’s Halifax Pride is sure to be a great one, as we are returning from virtual events and can fully immerse ourselves in the works of the community and Pride. However, even when Pride is past us, we want to make it part of our everyday lives. We want to recognize the progress of our community and acknowledge what still must be done. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping all of our clients feel at home with their mortgage and housing needs. We’re here to support you!

Halifax Pride runs from July 14 – July 24.
