#1 Halifax Music Fest
The last weekend of June will be a great one for music lovers! From June 27 – 29, head over to Garrison Grounds in the heart of Halifax for three days and nights of the best musical acts to kick off the summer. This rain-or-shine festival will feature performances from Canadian staples including Nickelback, as well international acts like The Killers, with more yet to be announced. This festival is heavy on rock music and sure to keep you entertained all weekend long.
Visitors can enjoy standard tickets or VIP access, which offers upgraded drinks and amenities on-site. Explore different cuisine options with various food vendors to keep you fueled up during the event. You can learn more about the event and how to purchase tickets here!
#2 Waterfront fun
Halifax is a great destination for waterfront activities, whether you are a local or tourist. The waterfront boardwalk is where all types of entertainment converge, with something for everyone to enjoy. It is packed with shops of all types, as well as art installations and the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market. This is where you will find a huge collection of fresh produce, local products, and delicious snacks. Speaking of food, the boardwalk is also surrounded by patios that provide a perfect spot for a sunny lunch or relaxing drink.
If you feel like getting into the water itself, Halifax is also home to some great beach options. You only need to travel a short distance to access surfing hotspots, gentle waters, and white sands, all thanks to Halifax’s handy location on the Atlantic coast. Some top picks include Lawrencetown Beach, Rainbow Haven Beach, and Crystal Crescent Beach.
#3 Halifax Pride
Halifax Pride is a classic summer event for Nova Scotians and tourists alike! This 11-day festival from July 17 – 27 is an annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a chance to provide education and create a safe space for the community to grow. Halifax Pride is one of the largest Pride events in Canada, and this year marks the 37th anniversary from its 1988 beginnings as a small march in Halifax.
Halifax Pride is full of fun events, workshops, seminars, and of course, the classic Pride Parade! The full list of vendors and events is still to come, but you can keep an eye out for more details here. Halifax Pride never disappoints, and this year is sure to be another memorable experience!
#4 Get into nature
Good news, nature lovers! Halifax and the surrounding areas are full of nature hotspots for you to enjoy. Whether you are into hiking, biking, or just a light stroll, there is something for everyone. Point Pleasant Park, located right in the city, is a perfect waterfront option for those looking to enjoy an easy trail and view of the water. If you’re looking for more wildlife and wetlands, check out Salt Marsh Trail. About 30 minutes from Halifax, you can walk or bike through the paths of these wetlands and catch some glimpses of birds and other animals. And of course, don’t forget about Peggy’s Cove! While this might seem like more of a tourist destination thanks to its iconic lighthouse, this spot is also perfect for taking in the ocean views and enjoying some beautiful walks.
#5 Halifax Busker Festival
Another classic summer tradition is the Halifax Busker Festival. From July 30 – August 4, locals and tourists can head to the Halifax waterfront to enjoy a new year of street performances, carnival rides, souvenirs, and amazing food! This family-friendly festival has something for everyone, featuring music, magic, and acrobatic performers. Talents come from all over the world to show off their skills on the waterfront boardwalk. Admission to the event is free, but visitors are encouraged to tip the talented performers! You can learn more about this annual festival here.
